Sarah Cookson

"The Long Shot - Apr 07
"The Long Shot" at the Unity Theatre, Liverpool is the best play I've seen for ages. It was billed as "a comic slice of Liverpool life" and it certainly didn't disappoint.

The debut play from exciting Liverpool playwirght Ed Barrett is set in 1970 in Liverpool where we meet the people of Bobby's cabaret bar.
Although packed with laughs and very funny scenes, it was, however, the sad dramatic scenes which were the highlight for me. The tension during the final scene was palpable, and you could have heard a pin drop in the (full capacity) theatre.

Deftly written and sympathetically acted by a wonderful cast there were both tears and laughs throughout the audience. I would highly recommend this production and I would be very keen to watch both another Ed Barrett playand the Enthusiastic Theatre Company again."
